Consultation has concluded

Marine pilotage is a service provided by four Crown corporations where marine pilots take control of a vessel and navigate it to, and through ports, straits, lakes, rivers and other waterways. Once a vessel enters a compulsory pilotage area, Canada’s law requires the vessel to bring a Canadian pilot on board to guide its transit through the area. These expert pilots use their seafaring experience and knowledge of local waterways to ensure vessels travel safely to and from their destinations.

On May 31, 2017, the Government of Canada announced it had selected Marc Grégoire to Chair the Review of the Pilotage Act. The Review will work to update the legislative and regulatory framework for delivering pilotage services into the future.
