A key component of the Transportation Modernization Act is a new approach to strengthen air passenger rights. As the Canadian Transportation Agency develops new air passenger protection regulations, Transport Canada is planning to gather information and data from air travel service providers to evaluate the effectiveness of those regulations. The data collected will also be used to assess the passenger experience more broadly.
Transport Canada will collect and publicly release air travel performance data, such as number of overbookings, on-time performance and security screening wait times. The data will come from air carriers and other air travel service providers, including the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and NAV Canada. Collecting this data will provide a comprehensive picture of the air travel experience to allow the Government of Canada to evaluate the effectiveness of new air passenger rights regulations. It will also allow air travellers to make more informed travel decisions, and will better inform future policies.
As we work toward new regulations on collecting air travel performance data, Canadians are invited to share their views. There are three ways to participate:
Send a formal written submission via the “Submissions” tab, by August 28, 2018;
Participate in our discussion forum via the “Have Your Say” tab. The forum will be open until August 28, 2018.
