Canada’s transportation sector relies on, and benefits from, services provided by Transport Canada. We are proposing changes to fees for aeronautical product design approvals, and we want your feedback.

We ensure aeronautical products approved for use in Canada conform to national design standards. In Canada, more than 1,500 new and modified aeronautical product designs are approved each year.

Section 4.4 of the Aeronautics Act allows us to charge fees for these approvals. You can find a list of the current fees in section 104, Schedule V of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR 104).

We are proposing changes to CAR 104, Schedule V. They include:

  • changing fees to better reflect the cost of providing services to approve aeronautical product designs. These range from designs for aircrafts or engines to the installation of Wi-Fi antennas;
  • removing the hard caps on hourly fees;
  • converting fixed fees to hybrid fees; and
  • introducing a range of new fees related to product certification, as described in the Fee Modernization Proposal.
