Consultation has concluded
Transport Canada is reviewing the proposed acquisition of Viterra Limited (Viterra) by Bunge Limited (Bunge) in accordance with the Canada Transportation Act. We want your input to help inform the review process.
On August 15, 2023, Viterra and Bunge notified the Minister of Transport that Bunge proposes to acquire Viterra. Bunge is a major U.S.-based grain company, and Viterra is another grain company that has extensive operations in Canada.
On September 26, 2023, the Minister decided that the proposed acquisition raises public interest issues related to national transportation and directed Transport Canada to begin a public interest assessment. The assessment will include input from the Commissioner of Competition, who will look at how the acquisition would impact competition in the transportation and agricultural sectors.
We want to hear from you
Public consultation is a key part of the public interest assessment. As such, we are inviting Canadians to share their views on the proposed acquisition. Here are a few ways to participate:
Please read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more information on the assessment process.
Go to "register" at the top of the page or sign in and join the discussion under the “Have Your Say” tab.
You can also submit your comments in one or more Word or PDF documents through the “Submissions” tab.
NOTE: Written submissions may be shared with Bunge and Viterra and could be made public. You have the option to withhold confidential/commercially sensitive information. Any confidential or commercially sensitive information should be clearly identified. You may also advise if you prefer your submission to remain confidential.
