Have your say on rail safety in Canada
Railways connect Canada from coast to coast. With over 41,000 kilometres of track, Canada has the third-largest rail network in the world.
Transport Canada develops and implements policies and regulations and administers the Railway Safety Act. The department completes approximately 33,000 railway safety inspections every year. We also review and update the legislation on rail safety.
Canada’s railway system faces many challenges and pressures, such as climate change, extreme weather, and new technologies. To keep pace, Transport Canada is committed to continuous improvement of our rail safety regime, including modernizing and strengthening our rules and regulations.
Under our core responsibility of a green and innovative transportation system, we’re enhancing engagement with local and Indigenous communities and organizations to help strengthen our relationships, develop new partnerships, and make sure that the voices of those interested in rail safety are carefully considered when reviewing and updating transportation-related legislation.
As a way of working with anyone affected by, or interested in, rail safety, we want to hear from you!
