Consultation has concluded

On June 15, 2019, Transport Canada proposed new Navigation Safety Regulations, 2019 (now the Navigation Safety Regulations, 2020), which were published in the Canada Gazette, Part I. These Regulations, which include the expansion of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) carriage requirements, were expected to be published this spring and the coming into force date of the expanded AIS carriage requirements was supposed to be in spring 2021 – one year after the registration of the Regulations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the publication of the Regulations has now been delayed to fall 2020.

In order to align with the original spring 2021 coming into force date of the expanded AIS carriage requirements, Transport Canada would like to reduce this coming into force date to six months (instead of one year) after the Regulations are registered.
